This is a question many people have — and understandably so.
Since 2019, it has not been permitted in the Netherlands to offer or use ayahuasca due to the presence of DMT, a substance that falls under the Dutch Opium Act. The plants traditionally used in ayahuasca also contain MAO inhibitors, which are not prohibited.
At the same time, scientific research into psychedelic substances and their therapeutic potential continues to grow worldwide, including research conducted by Dutch universities.

Within the Netherlands, there are facilitators and organizations who offer ceremonies with care and attention to safety. Participation takes place under personal responsibility and after an intake process focused on suitability and safety.
